Eva Busch
Eva Busch , b. Zimmermann, (born May 22, 1909 in Berlin , † July 20, 2001 in Munich ) was a German singer and cabaret artist .
Life
Eva Busch was the daughter of the famous opera singer Emmy Zimmermann . Together with her husband Ernst Busch, she appeared regularly in the Berliner Volksbühne and in cabaret theaters that were very popular at the time. The two were successful with songs by Bertolt Brecht , Walter Mehring and Kurt Tucholsky , among others . In 1933 Eva emigrated with her husband to Holland , where they separated in 1934. Like her husband, Eva Busch continued to openly sympathize with the anti-fascist resistance. In 1937 she was expatriated from Germany.
Eva Busch lived in Paris for a long time and performed in various cabarets . When the National Socialists marched into France, she was initially able to record records with the orchestras of Jacques Méthéhen and Adolf Steimel , including the German titles " Zigarette " (by Rudolf Nelson), " Ich muss dir so viel sein " (by Theo Mackeben ) and the popular hit movie " Bel Ami " (also by Mackeben). In February 1941 she was arrested with many other German emigrants and temporarily detained in the Vélodrome d'Hiver by militias cooperating with Germany . Until the end of Nazi rule, she was interned in the Camp de Gurs and four years in the Ravensbrück concentration camp .
In early 1946 she met the journalist George Sinclair, with whom she lived in Paris from then on.
Subsequently, Eva Busch established an international career as a chansonnier and singer. She was often a guest in the USA, where she was on stage with Bing Crosby , toured continuously through European countries such as France and the Netherlands and sang numerous records. The artist, who was extremely popular at the time, was one of the most respected representatives of her field until the 1970s and achieved great fame, not least because of her regular television and radio appearances.
After Sinclair's death on May 19, 1984, Eva Busch left France and moved to Munich . During the 1990s she still appeared occasionally on talk shows. Her best-known titles include the chansons “ So many speak of love who don't understand anything about love ” and “ The wind and the sea ”.
