Noel Gevor (birth name Norair Mikaelian ; born September 18, 1990 in Yerevan , Armenian SSR , Soviet Union ) is a German professional boxer of Armenian descent. He is currently (early 2016) boxing in the cruiserweight division . Before his boxing career, he trained Taekwondo . Mikaelian is a former WBO Junior World Champion and WBO International Cruiserweight Champion and lives and trains in Miami . Mikaelian boxes in the normal display .
Boxing career and private life
After graduating from high school, he began to study law at the University of Hamburg, but interrupted this to concentrate on his sporting career. In 2011 Gevor switched to the professional field and made his professional debut on May 27, 2011. He is trained by his stepfather Khoren Gevor . His younger brother Abel is his sparring partner . Gevor first boxed as a professional for Erol Ceylan's EC boxing promotion in Hamburg, before moving to Sauerland Event .
On June 8, 2013 Gevor fought in the preliminary program of the WBO cruiserweight world championship between Marco Huck and Ola Afolabi in Berlin's Max-Schmeling-Halle . There he defeated the Argentine boxer Juan Manuel Garay unanimously on points. After further victories, Gevor secured the vacant WBO Junior World Championship in his weight class on May 3, 2014 against the Georgian Gogita Gorgiladze. Due to his age, he had to give up this title again at the end of April 2015.
After further victories against Bela Juhasz, Ismail Abdoul, Tamas Lodi, Tamas Polster, Alejandro Emilio Valori, Mohamed Azzaoui and Lukasz Rusiewicz, Gevor fought on September 5, 2015 against the Argentine champion Daniel Alejandro Sanabria ("El Torbellino"). Gevor won on points and thus got the WBO title "International Champion".
On January 9, 2016, Gevor won against the Russian Valery Brudov (WBA interim world champion) on points.
In 2015, Gevor extended his contract with Sauerland Event for another two years.
