Nikola Sjekloća (born July 10, 1978 in Niš ) is a Montenegrin boxer in the super middleweight division.

Amateur career

In 1995 he lost to Jürgen Brähmer in the quarter-finals of the European Junior Championships in Siófok . In 1996 he was eliminated at the Junior World Championships in Havana, also in the quarter-finals against Alexander Afanasew from Russia. At the 1999 World Championships in Houston he lost in the first fight against Jorge Gutiérrez from Cuba.

In 2000 he finally won a bronze medal in the light middleweight division at the European Championships in Tampere , Finland , after losing to Andrei Mishin from Russia in the semifinals . At the World Championships 2001 in Belfast he had to admit defeat in the round of 16 against Yordanis Despaigne from Cuba. Also at the European Championships in Perm in 2002 he lost in the round of 16 against Lucian Bute from Romania.

His greatest success came at the 2003 World Championships in Bangkok when he won a bronze medal in the middleweight division. After a bye in the first round, he then defeated Jose Yebes from Spain, Kimbatbek Riskulow from Kyrgyzstan and Abdelghani Kinzi from Algeria, before losing to Oleg Maschkin from Ukraine just under 18:21 in the semifinals . At the 2004 European Championships in Pula , Croatia , he was eliminated in the quarter-finals against Andy Lee from Ireland.

He won another bronze medal in the middleweight division at the Mediterranean Games in 2005 in Almería , where he also only lost in the semifinals against Mohamed Hikal from Egypt. He had one last significant appearance at the 2005 World Championships in Mianyang , where he was only just eliminated from Russia by 12:15 against Gennady Golovkin .

Professional career

The 1.85 m tall left-wing arm turned professional in 2006 and won the WBC's Mediterranean title in super middleweight division in his tenth fight in May 2008 by beating the unbeaten Roberto Cocco (8-0) from Italy. He then defended this against the French Pierre Moreno (31-11) and the Italian Lorenzo Cosseddu (21-3).

On May 29, 2010 he won the WBC International Championship by winning points against Roman Schkarupa (22-1) from Ukraine and defended the title against Roberto Santos (16-4) from Spain, Khoren Gevor (31-6) from Armenia and Peter Mashamaite (22-8) from South Africa. After another win against the French Hadillah Mohoumadi (13-1), he received a WBC World Cup elimination match against Sakio Bika (30-5) from Cameroon in Atlantic City . However, this he was subject to over twelve rounds on points and suffered the first defeat in his 26th professional fight.

On May 3, 2014, he boxed in Berlin against Arthur Abraham (39-4) for the WBO World Championship, but lost over twelve rounds on points. He suffered another point defeat in November 2014 against Callum Smith (14-0). In April 2015 he boxed for the IBF International Championship, but lost on points to Tyron Zeuge (16-0).

In March 2017 he boxed a draw against European champion Robert Stieglitz (50-5). In December of the same year he lost prematurely to Anthony Yarde (13-0) in the fight for the WBO European Light Heavyweight Championship.
