Callum John Smith (* 23. April 1990 in Liverpool ) is a British professional boxer in the super middleweight division , current world champion of the WBA and winner of the tournament World Boxing Super Series 2018. He is the Ring Magazine out on No. 1 in the world rankings.

Amateur career

Smith trained as an amateur at the Rotunda ABC of Liverpool and played nearly 90 fights. He was British youth welterweight champion in 2008, British welterweight champion in 2010 and British middleweight champion in 2011. His greatest successes were the bronze medal at the Commonwealth Championships 2010 and the silver medal at the Commonwealth Games 2010.

In the European Olympic qualification in 2012 in Trabzon , he defeated Mladen Manew from Bulgaria, Boško Drašković from Montenegro and Imre Szellő from Hungary, before he was eliminated in the semifinals against Vatan Huseynli from Azerbaijan just 14:16.

Professional career

Smith has been boxing in the professional camp since November 2012. In September 2013 he became English champion against Patrick Mendy. In October 2013 he won the WBC International Title against Ruben Acosta. This was followed by title defenses against Tobias Webb (14-1), Vladine Biosse (15-3) and Nikola Sjekloća (28-2). In June 2015 he won the WBC Silver title unanimously on points against Christopher Rebrasse (23-3).

On November 7, 2015, he boxed for the British Championship, beating Rocky Fielding (21-0) in the first round. In April 2016 he defeated Hadillah Mohoumadi (20-3) also in the first round and thus became EBU European super middleweight champion. This was also his tenth first-round K. o.-win as a professional. He won the WBC silver title in September 2016 through TKO against Norbert Nemesapáti (21-3). In December 2016 he defeated Luke Blackledge (22-2) prematurely.

In the quarterfinals of the World Boxing Super Series (WBSS) he won against Erik Skoglund (26-0) unanimously on points in Liverpool on September 16, 2017 . In the WBSS semifinals on February 24, 2018, he also won unanimously against Nieky Holzken (13-0), who stood in as a replacement for Jürgen Brähmer, who was ill . In the WBSS final on September 28, 2018 in Jeddah , he defeated the British WBA world champion George Groves (28-3) by knockout in the seventh round.

In June 2019 he won against Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam (37-3) in the third round through TKO, defending his WBA title for the first time. He won another title defense on November 23, 2019 unanimously against John Ryder (28-4).

family

His older brothers Paul, Liam and Stephen are also professional boxers. Liam Smith is a former WBO light middleweight champion. Paul Smith was, among other things, two world championship challengers to Arthur Abraham , while Stephen Smith won the Commonwealth Games in 2006 as an amateur and also boxed twice for a world title as a professional.
