As the fight continued, both boxers were able to score alternately with good hits before Groves was taken out of the fight in the ninth round by the referee during a series of blows by Froch. Because of the controversial verdict, a rematch was scheduled, which took place on May 31, 2014 in London. Groves lost this by knockout in the eighth round.
