Jamie Cox (* 24. August 1986 in Swindon , Wiltshire , United Kingdom , as James Simon Russan ) is a British boxer in the super middleweight division . He is trained by John Costello and was promoted by Frank Warren from 2007 to 2017 . Its current promoter is Eddie Hearn .

Amateur career

Among the amateurs, Cox competed in the light welterweight division . In 2006 he was among other things English champion in London , where he defeated Eddie Corcoran in the final with 24: 6 on points, and took part in the Commonwealth Games . There he defeated Ionas Christodoulou, Todd Kidd, Jamie Crees and Moses Kopo and won gold for England .

Professional career

In 2007, the southpaw made his debut as a professional boxer. He could only win his first 3 fights, all of which were scheduled for 4 rounds, on points.

On September 11, 2011, Cox met in a fight scheduled for 12 rounds on the previously undefeated Obodai Sai (16-0-0). This fight was for the Commonwealth title . Cox won this fight unanimously on points (115: 113, 114: 112, 114: 113).

After this fight, Cox only boxed again in 2013. Opponent was the French Matiouze Royer. Cox won the fight, which was scheduled for 6 rounds, clearly and unanimously on points. After another lengthy phase without fighting, Cox did not take part again until February 14, 2015. He defeated Alistair Warren in round 1 by knockout. Just a good 5 months later, Cox fought for the vacant WBO European championship against Blas Miguel Martinez. Cox also defeated this with TKo in the 1st round and thus secured that belt. In November of the same year he defended this title against the Irish Ferenc again by technical knockout in the first round.

His compatriot Lewis Taylor competed against him for the vacant continental title of the WBA at the end of May 2017 and lost through a "technical decision" in round 9 in a fight scheduled for 12 rounds.

At the beginning of July 2017 it was announced that Cox was participating in the World Boxing Super Series (WBSS). There he met on 14 October 2017 the Wembley Arena in London on his compatriot George Groves and went hard in round 4 ko
