He completed his first professional fight on December 4, 2004 against Alexis Culit, who was experienced in 27 professional fights, and won by technical knockout in the third round. On June 29, 2007 he defeated the four-time Belgian champion and two-time Benelux champion Mike Algoet by unanimous victory on points and was also able to unanimously win the rematch on December 8th. On May 15, 2008, a unanimous victory over the French super middleweight champion Mehdi Amar and on September 18, a knockout victory in round five over the French light middleweight champion Woulid Guarras followed.

On December 11th, 2008 he won unanimously against the future EU champion Affif Belghecham and on June 27th, 2009 by knockout against the later European champion of the WBO , Gennady Martirosyan.

On June 12, 2010, he became international champion of the WBA with a knockout victory in round eight over the Argentine Omar Gabriel Weis . On April 2, 2011, he again defended this title unanimously on points against Giovanni Lorenzo , who was already the World Cup challenger to Sebastian Sylvester and Felix Sturm .

He reached number 4 in the world rankings and should fight in his next fight against the regular WBA world champion Gennadi Golowkin , but these negotiations failed. Instead, he won on May 4, 2012 by unanimously winning points against the undefeated ex-junior world champion Max Bursak, the interim WBO world title. In August 2012, he was finally appointed the new regular world champion in the middleweight division by the WBO, as the previous title holder Dmitri Pirog did not fight for the title defense.

On October 20, 2012, however, he lost the title in his first defense to the also undefeated American Peter Quillin (27-0). N'Jikam had to go down six times in the fight in New York City and finally lost over twelve rounds clearly on points.
