David Lemieux (born December 22, 1988 in Montreal , Québec ) is a Canadian professional boxer and former IBF middleweight champion.

Amateur career

Lemieux started boxing when he was nine. He won the Canadian championship three times.

Professional career

At 17, David Lemieux wanted to become a professional. The Canadian Boxing Federation only allows professional boxing from the age of 18. On April 14, 2007, at the age of 18, he played his first professional fight, which he won in the second round by knocking out. Eighteen months later David Lemieux won his first "smaller" title - the Canadian Quebec champion in light middleweight . On 11 December 2009 he beat Delray Raines in the second round KO and won so the Intercontinental junior world champion belt of the WBC in the middleweight division . It was his 20th knockout win in his 20th fight. In the next fight Lemieux had to make ends meet for the first time. He won all 10 rounds against Jason Naugler and even knocked him down once during the fight. With this win David Lemieux secured the Canadian super middleweight championship . He successfully defended the title two months later before he gave up the title undefeated.

Fight against Abraham opponents Ayala and Hector Camacho Jr

On June 11, 2010 it was then about the WBC International Middleweight Belt . His opponent Elvin Ayala , who fought against Arthur Abraham for 12 rounds for the IBF World Championship in March 2008 before being knocked out a few seconds before the end, was considered the greatest touchstone in the Canadian boxer's young career. Lemieux, however, sent his opponent down three times in the first round. The third knockdown, 16 seconds before the end of the first round, was the final knockout. On October 29, 2010 Lemieux defended his international championship belt of the WBC against the very experienced Puerto Rican Hector Camacho Jr , who previously won 52 of his 57 fights, boxed once, one fight was not rated and only lost three. This fight also ended in the first round. It was only the second premature defeat for Hector Camacho Jr. On December 3, 2010 Lemieux was able to continue its winning streak with a TKO win in round two over Purnell Gates .

The first defeat

On April 8, 2011 Lemieux boxed in the WBC World Championship Eliminator fight against Marco Antonio Rubio . Lemieux started aggressively as usual and hit Rubio hard from the first lap. However, he was able to stay on his feet and so the first six laps went clearly to Lemieux without precipitation. In the seventh lap, Lemieux's stamina paid tribute to the pressure of the opening laps. He had to go down for the first time in his professional career after a hard and straight left-right combination Rubios. Rubio followed up and hit Lemieux with several heavy hands before the referee broke off the fight after Lemieux's trainer threw in the towel.

Another defeat followed on December 10 of the same year, this time by a majority decision on points against Joachim Alcine . One of the judges scored the bout 114: 114 draw, the other two decided 116: 112 for Alcine.

After half a year of abstinence from the ring, Lemieux got into the ring three times in 2012 and won against opponents in the first two rounds by knockout.

First IBF world champion title

On June 20, 2015, David Lemieux became IBF Middleweight World Champion. After 12 rounds he won the vacant title unanimously against the French Hassan N'Dam . His opponent was down four times during the fight after several hard hits from the Canadian.

His first defense took place on October 17, 2015 in Madison Square Garden , in which he took on three more titles from his opponent Gennady Golovkin . However, he lost prematurely in the eighth round.
