Curtis Stevens (born March 10, 1985 in New York City ) is an American professional middleweight boxer.

Career

Born and raised in Brownsville , New York , Stevens began boxing at the age of five and had his first amateur fight at the age of eight. In 2002 he won the US light heavyweight championships (75-81 kg), defeating Christopher Tillman, Ivan Stovall, Terrance Johnson, Jacob Garretson and Tavoris Cloud . At the National Golden Gloves of the same year he reached second place in the light heavyweight division; after wins against Mike Wood, Eric Kelly, John Venesanakos and Dennis Draper, he lost in the final against Allan Green . In 2003 he won the bronze medal in the light heavyweight division at the US championships. He had fought his way to the semi-finals against Orlando Reyes and Shawn Blaney, where he was defeated by Andre Ward .

In 2004 he became a professional boxer at the age of 19 and quickly made a name for himself as a tough puncher. He won his first 13 fights in a row, 11 of them by knockout. As an amateur, he already had the third highest knockout rate in the history of New York State.

On July 20, 2006 he was defeated in the super middleweight division in the fight for the WBC Youth World Championship surprisingly prematurely against Marcos Primera from Venezuela, but defeated this in the rematch four months later. He also won his next three fights, including a points win against Darnell Boone .

On June 16, 2007 he lost due to the superior speed of his opponent on points against Andre Dirrell , but won his next four fights, including by tKo in the third round against the undefeated Poland Piotr Wilczewski .

On January 29, 2010, he lost in an IBF World Championship elimination on points against Jesse Brinkley. In his subsequent four fights he defeated, among others, Elvin Ayala and Saúl Román and also won the NABF North American Championship in the middleweight division.

He then boxed on November 2, 2013 in Madison Square Garden for the WBO World Middleweight Championship, but lost to the Kazakh title holder Gennady Golovkin prematurely.

In January 2014 he won in the first round by tKo against Patrick Majewski from Poland. In April, a tKo victory against the unbeaten Tureano Johnson followed . In October 2014 he lost to Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam on points .

On May 7, 2016, he defeated Patrick Teixeira (26-0) by TKo in the second round and was thereby WBC "Continental Americas" middleweight title holder. In November 2016 he defended the title against James De la Rosa (23-4).

On March 11, 2017 he lost by knockout against David Lemieux (36-3)
