Tureano Dexter Johnson (born February 12, 1984 in Nassau ) is a professional boxer from Bahamas .

Amateur career

Tureano Johnson played over 300 amateur light welterweight and welterweight fights. His coach was the former professional boxer and three-time World Cup challenger Ray Minus (* 1964). Johnson won eight gold medals at Caribbean championships and was named the best boxer of the championships five times. In 2003 he won the silver medal at the Commonwealth Championships in Malaysia and in 2007 the gold medal at the Pan American Games qualification in Trinidad. In the games themselves, however, he was defeated in the quarterfinals against Diego Gabriel Chaves 6: 9 on points.

He was also a participant in the 2005 and 2007 World Championships, but retired before reaching the medal ranks against Naim Terbunja , Sweden, or Borna Katalinić, Croatia. In 2008 he took part in the American Olympic qualification in Trinidad and Guatemala. He defeated Fernando Espinosa from Ecuador, this time also Diego Gabriel Chaves from Argentina, Pedro Lima from Brazil and Omar Moreno from Venezuela and suffered only two narrow points defeats against Pedro Lima (13:14) and Gilbert Castillo (2: 3), with which he was only the third boxer from Bahamas to qualify for the Olympic Games.

At the subsequent Summer Olympics in Beijing in 2008 , he defeated Rolande Moses and Olexander Stretskii, before he was eliminated in the quarter-finals against Qanat Ïsläm and thus reached fifth place. After the games he was ranked fourth in the world.

Professional career

In 2010 he switched to the professional camp and moved to the USA, where he settled in Georgia . He won his debut on March 5th by knocking out in the first round. 13 more victories followed, including a unanimous victory over the undefeated Willie Fortune (15-0). In April 2014 he controversially lost to Curtis Stevens (26-4) after he was in the lead on all three scorecards and was taken out of the fight by the referee in the last round.

Immediately afterwards he beat Mike Gavronski (14-0) and was thereby champion of the American continent of the WBC. In another fight he also defeated the veteran from Ecuador, Humberto Toledo (41-11), prematurely in the sixth round.

In January 2015 he won an early victory against the Colombian Alex Theran (17-1) and thus became international champion of the WBA and silver title holder of the WBC. In October 2015 he won against Eamon O'Kane (14-1) by unanimous decision. In August 2017, he lost to Serhiy Derevianchenko in the twelfth round due to a technical knockout .

In July 2019, he won by TKO against Jason Quigley after he gave up the fight after the ninth round.
