Pedro Álvaro Santos de Lima (born June 29, 1983 in Riachão do Jacuípe , Bahia state ) is a Brazilian boxer.

Career

He was Brazilian light welterweight champion in 2003, Brazilian welterweight champion in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009, and Brazilian middleweight champion in 2011, 2013 and 2015. He also defeated Esquiva Falcão twice .

In 2005 he retired at the 6th Pan American Championships in Teresópolis , only in the semifinals of the welterweight division against Erislandy Lara and won bronze. At the World Championships of the same year in Mianyang , however, he was eliminated in the second preliminary round. In 2006 he reached a 5th place at the South American Games in Buenos Aires .

He celebrated his greatest continental success in 2007 when he won the welterweight gold medal at the 15th Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro . He prevailed against Jaime Cortez from Ecuador, Ricardo Smith from Jamaica and Demetrius Andrade from the USA. At the world championships of the same year in Chicago , he only had to admit defeat in the round of 16 against Baqyt Särsekbajew .

For the 2008 Summer Olympics he could not qualify because he was eliminated in the American eliminations in Port of Spain and Guatemala City in 3rd and 5th place. After victories against Lucien Hewelette, Tureano Johnson , Cristian Peguero and Gustavo Bernardez, he was defeated against John Jackson and in a rematch against Tureano Johnson. In 2009 he took part in the World Championships in Milan , where he was eliminated in the second preliminary round against Balázs Bácskai .

In 2010 he won the middleweight gold medal at the 53rd Military World Championships in Jacksonville , USA. On the way to the title he defeated Joan Nilusmas from France, Nurbota Seitbek from Kazakhstan and Peter Müllenberg from the Netherlands. At the World Military Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2011 , he fought for 5th place.

At the 2014 Military World Championships in Almaty , Kazakhstan , he won the silver medal in the middleweight division. At the American Olympic qualification in Buenos Aires in 2016, he was eliminated in the round of 16 against Marlon Delgado. In the worldwide Olympic qualification in Baku in June 2016, he lost in the first fight against Davide Faraci from Switzerland.
