Piotr Wilczewski (born August 9, 1978 in Dzierżoniów ) is a Polish professional boxer and former European super middleweight champion of the EBU .

Amateur career

At the 9th Junior World Championships in Havana in 1996 he was defeated starting in the light middleweight division, already in the first round of the tournament to the later world champion Vladimir Linares from Cuba.

At the chemistry cup 2000, he lost in the second round of the tournament against the Czech Rudolf Kraj .

At the 33rd European Championships in Tampere 2000, he started in the light heavyweight division and won it against the Ukrainian Vyacheslav Uzhelkov , but then lost to the later European runner-up Claudiu Rasco .

At the 34th European Championships in Perm in 2002 , he won the middleweight division against the German Eduard Gutknecht , but then lost to the Finn Jani Rauhala .

Professional career

In December 2004 he played his first professional fight. He won his first eight fights against opponents before he boxed on June 3, 2006 in Ostrołęka for the international championship of the WBF in the super middleweight division. He defeated the former Benelux champion Mike Algoet unanimously on points. In his next fight he boxed in Villa Park (Illinois) for the first time in the United States, defeating southpaw Ottu Holifield unanimously on points.

On October 20, 2006 he defended his WBF title in Włocławek by tKo in the ninth round against Kimfuta Makussu. After seven more victories in Poland, he boxed against Thomas Reid in Chicago on July 11, 2008 and won by tKo in the second round. Reid then ended his career. After following victories against the Russian Sergey Kharchenko, the Belarusian Kanstantsin Makhankou and the Spaniard José Ubarnes, he boxed on July 11, 2009 in Newark for the third time in the USA. However, he was defeated by Curtis Stevens by tKo in the third round.

After three consecutive victories, he boxed on April 9, 2010 in his hometown against the French Aziz Daari for the international Polish championship in super middleweight and won unanimously on points. At the same time he received the title of TWBA . On September 17th of the same year, he defended the title through tKo in the second round against the multiple Spanish champion Miguel Peña.

On December 11, 2010 he won the IBO International Championship in Super Middleweight in Grodzisk Mazowiecki ; he won it unanimously against Karlo Tabaghua. In his next fight on March 4, 2011 in Helsinki , he defeated the Finn Amin Asikainen by tKo in the eleventh round and thus became European champion of the EBU in the super middleweight division, in addition he received the intercontinental championship of the WBO .

But in the first title defense on October 15 in Liverpool , he lost both belts by a narrow point defeat (340: 344) to the 2008 Olympic champion, James DeGale . On February 17, 2012, he won on points against the Serb Geard Ajetović .

On March 31, 2012 he boxed in Kiel against Arthur Abraham , who played his second comeback fight against Wilczewski. The motto of the boxing event was “All or nothing”, as Abraham's defeat was expected to result in his resignation from boxing. Abraham won the fight over 12 rounds unanimously on points, but could not knock out the Poles as announced by the commentators and expected by the audience.

After another fight in June 2012, he ended his career. Six years later he fought another fight against the Georgian Giorgi Kandelaki, which he won.

After the career

After his active career, he became a boxing trainer and looked after Mariusz Wach .
