Rudolf Kraj (born December 5, 1977 in Mělník , Czechoslovakia ) is a Czech boxer.

amateur

Kraj won 170 out of 200 fights as an amateur boxer. In 1997 he took part in the World Championships for the first time , but retired in the middleweight division (-75 kg) in the first fight against Dirk Eigenbrodt , Germany (+4: 4), and the following year he reached the quarter-finals of the European Championships , but lost it against Dmitriy Strelchinin, Russia (6: 1). At the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 he surprisingly won the silver medal in the light heavyweight division (−81 kg). He won against Olanda Anderson, USA (13:12), Albert Jegbefumer, Nigeria (8: 7), and Andrij Fedtschuk, Ukraine (11: 7), and lost the final against Russian Alexander Lebsjak .

In 2002 Krai was eliminated from the European Championships in the first fight against Juha Ruokola, Finland (17:12), but was able to win at the 2003 World Championships after victories over Tino Gross, Germany (20: 8), Mohamed Akli Amari, Algeria (RSC 2 .), and Ahmed Ismail , Egypt (25:14), the semifinals, which he lost to Yevgeny Makarenko , Russia (23:19), and thus won the bronze medal.

Kraij played his last international championships in 2004 at the European Championships , where he lost in the first fight.

professional

In 2005 he became a professional cruiserweight at the Hamburg boxing stable Spotlight Boxing . After he was able to win all of his first 14 fights, he finally got the chance to box for the vacant WBC world title on October 24, 2008 . His opponent in this fight was the Italian Giacobbe Fragomeni . After Kraj made a "cut" to his opponent in the seventh round, the fight had to be stopped in the eighth round and scored. Fragomeni won this fight by a unanimous decision on points.
