Ahmed Ismail El Shamy ( Arabic أحمد اسماعيل الشامي; * October 21, 1975 in Cairo ) is a former Egyptian boxer . Ismail was winner of the 2003 African Games and bronze medalist at the 2004 Olympic Games .

Career

In 1999, Ismail first took part in the light heavyweight division (-81 kg) in the Africa Games and finished third after losing to Mohamed Bahari , Algeria , in the semifinals . At the Mediterranean Games in 2001, he also won the bronze medal.

In 2003 Ismail took part in the World Championships and, after winning over Hamed Yassin, Brunei (RSC 2nd), and Batmönchiin Enchbajar , Mongolia (DQ 3rd), reached the quarter-finals, which he lost to Rudolf Kraj , Czech Republic (25:14) . At the African Games the following year, Ismail won the gold medal, beating Isaac Ekpo, Nigeria (16:12) in the final.

With this success Ismail also qualified for the 2004 Olympic Games in which he compared Shohrat Kubranov, Turkmenistan (44:22), Trevor Stewardson, Canada (38:22), and by an injury to the opponent against Helias Pavlidis, Greece , won before he lost in the semifinals against Magomed Aripgadijew , Belarus (23:20) and thus won the Olympic bronze medal.

After this success Ismael ended his career.
