Darnell Lamont Boone (born January 21, 1980 in Youngstown , Ohio ) is an American professional boxer .

Career

Darnell Boone has lived in Georgia since 2003 and had only fought around ten amateur fights before he became a professional boxer in 2004 for financial reasons. He has fought so far in the US, Canada and Mexico, mostly in the super middleweight and middleweight division. Over the course of his career, he had a mixed match record, but defeated a number of strong opponents and boxed against some of the world's best fighters in his weight class.

He defeated undefeated boxers like Chris Archer (4-0), Ronald Johnson (6-0), James Johnson (7-0), James Countryman (8-0) and Willie Monroe junior (10-0), the latter boxing in May 2015 for the world championship belt of the IBO WBC and WBA against Gennady Golovkin . Boone scored other victories against boxers with positive records against Rasheem Brown (17-2), Calvin Green (20-3) and Phillip Benson (15-1), among others.

On November 19, 2005 he boxed against the Olympic champion and later best super middleweight in the world, Andre Ward (6-0). Boone lost the evenly looking fight on points (167: 174), but scored a knockdown against Ward in the fourth round. Against the unbeaten Lajuan Simon (13-0) he scored a draw in April 2006. Simon later became known as the World Cup challenger to Arthur Abraham and Gennady Golovkin.

On April 16, 2010 he surprisingly defeated the undefeated, later WBC world champion Adonis Stevenson (13-0) by knockout in the second round. In the next fight he also reached a draw against Lennox Allen (12-0).

On October 9, 2010 he boxed against Sergei Kowaljow (9-0), who later rose to become the world's best light heavyweight. Boone only lost on points (2: 1 judge's decision). In November 2013, he boxed another draw against Morgan Fitch (11-0).

Other major opponents of his career so far have been Anthony Thompson (20-1), Enrique Ornelas (22-2), Jean Pascal (12-0), Curtis Stevens (16-1), Erislandy Lara (6-0), Edwin Rodriguez ( 11-0), Marco Peribán (9-0) and Arif Magomedow (14-0). Against these opponents Boone had to accept a defeat, but only lost against Peribán prematurely. He was also defeated in return battles against Stevenson and Kowaljow.

Boone was also a sparring partner of Kelly Pavlik and Gennadi Golowkin .
