Jean-Thenistor Pascal (born October 28, 1982 in Port-au-Prince , Haiti ) is a Haitian- Canadian professional boxer and former WBC world light heavyweight champion.

Life

He came to nearby Montreal from Haiti with his mother and older brother at the age of four . When his brother became boxing champion of Québec in 1996 , he started boxing too.

Amateur career

In his amateur career he won 103 fights and lost 18. From 1998 to 2004 he was Canadian champion seven times in a row. He also won the 2002 Commonwealth Games in the light middleweight division and the bronze medal at the 2003 Pan American Games . At the 2004 Olympic Games , however, he was eliminated early on against Yordanis Despaigne from Cuba .

Professional career

On February 3, 2005, he made his professional debut. By the end of 2008 he had fought 25 fights in his professional career. Of his 24 wins, he was able to finish 16 prematurely. His only defeat was Carl Froch in a battle for the vacant WBC super middleweight title in December 2008. On June 19, 2009, he won the WBC light heavyweight title by winning points over Adrian Diaconu . He defended his title three months later against Silvio Branco . On December 11, 2009, he won a rematch in Montreal again over Adrian Diaconu. Pascal achieved his greatest success when he defeated the favored Chad Dawson on points in August 2010 . He also won the title of the renowned Ring Magazine .

On December 18, 2010 Pascal defended his title against old master Bernard Hopkins , who, thanks to his numerous career successes , is number 1 in the independent computer rankings . The fight ended in a draw, whereupon a rematch for May 21 was agreed, but Pascal lost unanimously on points. In January 2014, he managed to win a point against Lucian Bute .
