Erik Skoglund (born May 24, 1991 in Vårdinge , Stockholm County ) is a Swedish professional boxer, former youth world champion of the WBC and current EU champion of the EBU in the light heavyweight division.

Amateur career

Erik Skoglund started boxing at the age of 11 and has played 114 amateur fights, including 78 wins and one draw. He was Swedish Cadet Champion in 2006 and Swedish Cadet and Youth Champion in 2007. In 2008 he was again Swedish youth champion and won the Nordic youth middleweight championships. Also in 2009 he was Swedish youth champion and won the Nordic light heavyweight championships. In 2009 he was also Swedish champion in the adult (elite class) in the light heavyweight division and was named the best boxer of the championships.

In 2009/2010 he also fought for the “Boxing Team North” in the 1st Bundesliga, defeating Peter Müllenberg , but had to accept two defeats against Gottlieb Weiss .

Professional career

In 2010, at the age of 18, he became a professional at Sauerland Event in Berlin and is trained there by Karsten Röwer. On May 1st, 2010 he made his professional debut against István Laboda (2-0) from Hungary in Oldenburg and won by unanimous decision.

On April 13, 2013 he won in his 16th fight unanimously on points against the Englishman Luke Blackledge (13-0) and became the new youth world champion of the WBC in the light heavyweight division. In June 2013 he won unanimously against the Italian Lorenzo Di Giacomo (41-7). On October 19, 2013 he won the EU light heavyweight championship with a unanimous score against the Dane Lolenga Mock (31-13). He defended this on April 12, 2014 through tKo in the ninth round against the Italian Danilo D'Agata (12-1).

On September 13, 2014, he defeated Stefano Abatangelo (18-3) and also won the IBF Intercontinental Championship . In December 2014 there was a points win against Glen Johnson (54-19). In December 2015, he beat Derek Edwards (27-5) unanimously on points.

With a points win against Ryno Liebenberg (17-2) in April 2016, he became the international IBO light heavyweight champion. In December 2016 he defeated the Austrian Timy Shala (21-1). He suffered his first professional defeat on September 16, 2017 against Callum Smith (22-0).

In 2017 he was supposed to take part in the World Boxing Super Series tournament, but suffered a brain hemorrhage during a training session in December 2017, had to undergo emergency surgery and put into artificial deep sleep.
