Kenneth "Kenny" Egan (born January 7, 1982 in Dublin ) is a former Irish boxer and current politician. As a boxer he was among other things silver medalist at the 2008 Olympic Games in the light heavyweight division. In 2014 he was elected to South Dublin County Council for the Fine Gael People's Party .

Boxing career

Kenny Egan grew up in Clondalkin , County Dublin (now County South Dublin ). At the age of ten, he saw his compatriot Michael Carruth become Olympic boxing champion in Barcelona in 1992 . He was so excited about it that he also started boxing. He then belonged to the renowned Neilston Boxing Club Dublin .

National

Kenneth Egan was Irish middleweight champion in 2001 and 2002, and eight consecutive Irish light heavyweight champions from 2003 to 2010. He defeated Darren O'Neill and Tommy McCarthy twice . In 2011, 2012 and 2013 Egan was runner-up in the light heavyweight division after failing in the finals against Joe Ward .

EU championships

At the championships of the EU , he won the silver medal at the first event in 2003 in Strasbourg after losing to İhsan Yıldırım Tarhan in the final , after he had previously defeated Donatas Jasikevičius and John Dovi . In 2004 in Madrid he was defeated in the quarterfinals against Aleksy Kuziemski , but then won the gold medal in Cagliari in 2005 with victories against Kevin Piquet, İhsan Yıldırım Tarhan, István Szűcs and Marijo Šivolija .
