Yıldırım Dağyeli

Yıldırım Dağyeli (* 1942 ) is a German publisher and literary translator . He is the founder and former owner of Dağyeli Verlag in Berlin .

Life

Together with Helga Dağyeli-Bohne, the journalist translated numerous important works of Turkish literature into German, for example by Demir Özlü , Nazim Hikmet and Sait Faik, and wrote forewords and afterwords for publications. With Aras Ören and Fakir Baykurt , authors of German migration literature were also translated. The translator duo gained fame through the translation and editing of early memed volumes by Yaşar Kemal . Dağyeli founded his publishing house, which specializes in works by Turkish authors, in the early 1980s. It was initially based in Frankfurt am Main . It was here that Dağyeli founded, together with Ibrahim Halil Özak, in 1983 a bilingual quarterly “ Forum for foreigner issues and culture” , which was published until 1987. Today the Dağyeli-Verlag, which is now run by his daughter, is located in Berlin-Neukölln .
