Marijo Šivolija-Jelica (born June 29, 1981 in Rijeka ) is a former Croatian amateur light heavyweight boxer, Vice European Champion from 2004 and Vice World Champion from 2005.

Career

The 1.87 m tall multiple Croatian champion boxed for BK Rijeka and took part in the Junior World Championships in Buenos Aires in 1998 , where he was defeated by the Russian and later silver medalist Vladimir Fedetov in the preliminary round of the middleweight division. At the European Junior Championships in Rijeka in 1999, he defeated the Romanians Ionel Eseanu (6: 2) and Nathan King from Wales (8: 5) before losing to the Russian and later gold medalist Alexander Alexejew in the semifinals and thus won a bronze medal in the light heavyweight division.

At the European Championships in 2000 in Tampere , he lost in the light heavyweight division in the preliminary round against the later silver medalist Claudiu Rasco from Romania (2:10). At the European Championships in February 2004 in Pula , he was only defeated in the final Yevgeny Makarenko and won the silver medal in the light heavyweight division. At the Summer Olympics in Athens that year , he lost in the preliminary round against Edgar Muñoz from Venezuela (23:31).

In 2005 he won the silver medal at the EU Championships in Cagliari and the bronze medal at the Mediterranean Games in Almería . He also started in November at the World Championships in Mianyang , where he won the silver medal in the light heavyweight division. He prevailed against the Belarusian Andrej Miruk, Lei Yuping from China, Daugirdas Šemiotas from Lithuania and Artak Malumjan from Armenia, before he only lost in the final against the Kazak Yerdos Dschanabergenow .

At the 2006 EU Championships in Pécs and the 2007 EU Championships in Dublin , he won a bronze medal each. At the 2007 World Championships in Chicago , he won in the preliminary rounds against Javid Taghiev from Azerbaijan and Kenneth Egan from Ireland, but lost to the Uzbek Abbos Atoyev in the quarterfinals .

Even at the EU championships in 2008 in Cetniewo , he remained medalless. Most recently he started at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing , where he was defeated, however, in the second preliminary round against Dschachan Kurbanow .
