Daugirdas Semiotas
Daugirdas Šemiotas (born May 20, 1983 in Kaunas ) is a Lithuanian boxer . He won a bronze light heavyweight medal at the 2007 World Amateurs Championship in Chicago .
Career
Semiotas started boxing in 1995 in Kaunas. His trainer is Vilius Buika. Even as a junior he was one of the best Lithuanian boxers. He is now 1.82 m tall and boxing in the light heavyweight division (class up to 81 kg body weight). In addition to his sport, he is studying medicine.
His international boxer career began in 2000 with an excellent 5th place at the Junior World Championships in Budapest in the light middleweight division. At the European Junior Championships in 2001 in Sarajevo , he was even more successful, because he was junior vice European champion in the middleweight division . In the final of this championship he lost to Ilaja Bogdanow from Ukraine . In the same year he won the senior middleweight division at the Algirdas-Šocikas tournament in Kaunas.
He won this tournament in 2003 with a final victory over his compatriot Rikardas Bajka. He then represented his country at the World Middleweight Championship in Bangkok , but retired after a defeat against Dimitri Usagin from Bulgaria before the round of 16 and came in 17th place.
For participation in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens Semiotas could not qualify. In 2005, after losing semi-finals to Wladimir Ceran from Belarus and Tony Jeffries from England, he finished third in the light heavyweight division at the Feliks Stamm Memorial in Warsaw as well as at the Algirdas Šocikas tournament in Kaunas . In the same year he also started at the world championships in Mianyang / China . He won there in the light heavyweight division over Flavio Furtado from the Cape Verde Islands and over Zaur Taymanow from Qatar and was defeated in the quarterfinals against Mario Sivolja from Croats on points. He took a good 5th place.
In 2006 emiotas won the Algirdas-Šocikas tournament with victories over Sebastian Radkiewicz from Poland and Andrejs Barabanovs from Lithuania. At the European Championships this year in Plovdiv he won over Ewgeni Chervnovol from Moldova , but lost in the round of 16 against Constantin Bejenaru from Romania by breaking off in the 3rd round and came in 9th place.
In 2007 he was defeated at the Feliks Stamm Memorial in Warsaw in the quarterfinals against the 2001 and 2003 world champions Yevgeny Makarow from Russia on points and finished in 5th place. At the 2007 World Cup in Chicago , he won the light heavyweight division over Elie Augustama, Haiti (19: 3), Zolak Ananikjan , Armenia (18:10) and Ramadan Yasser Abdelghaffart from Egypt (18: 9) on points. In his semi-final fight against Artur Beterbijew from Russia, he could not compete because of an injury. By reaching the semi-finals, however, he had already won a bronze medal .
At the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 Semiotas lost in his first fight against Yerkabulan Shinaliyev from Kazakhstan on points (3:11) and thus only reached 17th place. At the European Championships in Liverpool in 2008 , he failed in the quarter-finals to Rene Krause from Germany .
