Gottlieb Weiss (born February 3, 1987 in Jangijul , Uzbek SSR , Soviet Union ) is a German boxer .

Career

In a Russian-German -born family Baden Hauptgefreite Gottlieb Weiss (BAC 55 Hockenheim) from Waldangelloch at Sinsheim 's Bundeswehr soldier in the sports promotion group Bruchsal and trained in the Olympic Training Center in Heidelberg .

From 2002 to 2005, the 1.89 m tall mobile technician was German cadet and junior champion. In 2003 white was in the middleweight (up to 75 kg) third of the Cadet World Championships and the European Championships. Since 2005 he has been team captain of the Bundesliga club BC Olympia Rhein-Neckar. That year he also came in second at the European Junior Championships in Tallinn .

His greatest international success to date was in Warendorf in 2006 , when he was able to become the only German military world champion alongside Artur Schmidt in the lightweight, although he benefited from a final victory without a fight over the favored Russian Sergei Kowaljow .

He suffered from back problems for a long time in 2007, but he won two of three fights against his national rival, the Leverkusen René Krause and the Golden Belt tournament in Constanța ( Romania ) and qualified for the World Championships in Chicago . There he beat the Czech Petr Novotny 20: 4, but surprisingly lost to the then unknown Chinese Zhang Xiaoping (later Olympic champion) with 13:17 points and thus missed the direct Olympic qualification, which he did not succeed later on. After winning two fights in the second qualifying tournament, he just lost to the later Olympic silver medalist Kenneth Egan .

At the German championship in December 2007 he was defeated by veteran and defending champion Robert Woge 16:31. The following German championship in 2008 was clearly won by Gottlieb Weiss, he beat his opponents Robert Woge and René Krause. Due to a shoulder injury, Rene Krause was sent to the European Championships to replace Weiss at short notice. At the end of 2008 his match record was 126 fights, 104 victories.

In April 2010 he reached 1st place at the Feliks Stamm Tournament in Warsaw . In June 2010 he started at the European Championships in Moscow , but lost in the first fight against Oleksandr Hwosdyk from Ukraine. He also became German runner-up in 2010 when he lost to Tyron in the final . In the semi-finals he had defeated Serge Michel .

In 2011 Weiss started again at the World Military Championships, but retired early. The following year he won the heavyweight division (up to 91 kg) at the first ever open European military championships in Võru .

Bundesliga

From 2009 to 2014 Gottlieb Weiss boxed very successfully in the 1st Bundesliga for the Velbert boxing club . He won u. a. against Erik Skoglund and Johann Witt and lost to Peter Müllenberg .
