İhsan Yıldırım Tarhan (born November 24, 1980 ) is a former Turkish light heavyweight amateur boxer .

Boxing career

Tarhan took part in the 1998 Junior World Championships in Buenos Aires , but was eliminated there in the round of 16 just on points against Rinat Giabadulin from Kazakhstan. In 2000 he started at the European Championships for the first time , defeating Sean O'Grady from Ireland, but lost in the quarterfinals to Alexander Lebsjak from Russia (1: 3).

In 2001 he made 3rd place at the Ahmet Cömert tournament in Istanbul and started at the world championships for the first time . He won his preliminary round match against Alexsandro Cardoso from Brazil, but was eliminated in the round of 16 against Alan Reynolds from Ireland (13:15). At the Mediterranean Games in 2001 he won the silver medal after he had fought his way to the final against John Dovi from France and Ahmed Ismail from Egypt and only lost there against the Tunisian Mohammed Sahraoui.

In 2002 he won gold medals at the Bocskai tournament in Debrecen and at the Ahmet Cömert tournament in Istanbul. He beat the Hungarian István Szűcs and the Azerbaijani Ali Ismailow in the final bouts. He also won bronze at the Chowdhry Cup in Baku and started at the 2002 European Championships in Russia. There he defeated the Moldovan Mihail Muntean before narrowly knocked out Yugoslavia's Ivan Ribac in the round of 16 (11:12).

In 2003 he won silver at the Bocskai tournament and bronze at the Chowdhry Cup and the Ahmet Cömert tournament. He also won the EU championships in France with victories against Babacar Kamara and Kenneth Egan . At the 2003 World Championships, however, he remained medalless after he was eliminated in the preliminary round against Aleksy Kuziemski from Poland (7:10).

In 2004 he won the World University Championships in Antalya and the EU Championships in Madrid . This time he beat Aleksy Kuziemski prematurely in the EU final, having previously outdone Romanian Constantin Bejenaru and Czech Tomáš Adámek. In the final of the World Cup, he won against military world champion Danil Shved from Russia. At the 2004 European Championships in Croatia, he also defeated Kenneth Egan again, but failed in the round of 16 against Russian Yevgeny Makarenko . In addition, he outstandingly won the Strandja tournament in Plovdiv . He defeated Stefan Bálint from Romania (TKo), Tony Davis from England (33:13), the Olympic silver medalist Rudolf Kraj from the Czech Republic (25:12), the Olympic bronze medalist Terwel Pulew from Bulgaria (19:11) and the two-time world champion Clemente Russo from Italy (29:18). He then took part in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens and beat Soulan Pownceby from New Zealand and Beibut Shumenov from Kazakhstan, before he was eliminated by Oʻtkirbek Haydarov from Uzbekistan in 5th place.

In 2005 he won silver again at the Mediterranean Games in Spain, but failed in the preliminary round of the 2005 World Cup in China against Adura Olelehin from Nigeria (15:16). At the EM 2006 in Bulgaria he was defeated in the round of 16 against Alexander Powernow from Germany.
