Rubén Varón Fernández (born April 25, 1979 in Alcalá de Henares ) is a Spanish professional boxer .
Career
Rubén Varón boxed as an amateur at international tournaments in England, Poland, Romania and the Ukraine. In March 2000 he started his professional career and was Spanish champion, Latin American champion of the WBO and WBC , and EU champion of the EBU in the light middleweight division. In a title defense, he also defeated the Czech Lukáš Konečný .
On December 20, 2003, he boxed in Kiel for the WBO world middleweight title against Felix Sturm , but lost over twelve rounds on points. In March 2009 he lost to Sebastian Zbik , and in December 2010 in the fight for the EBU European title against Matthew Macklin . Another EM fight was planned for March 12, 2016 against Cédric Vitu . However, the Spaniard lost this in the fourth round.
