Eimantas Stanionis (* 17th August 1994 in Kaunas ) is a Lithuanian boxer in the welterweight division .

Amateur career

Stanionis started boxing in 2007 at the age of 13 and joined the national team three years later. He won a bronze medal at the 2010 European Junior Championships in Lviv , finished 5th at the 2011 European Youth Championships in Dublin and 8th place at the 2012 World Youth Championships in Yerevan . He beat Oleg Dowgun, Michal Satorsky, Patrik Velky, Qais Ashfaq , Thomas Waites, Salavat Chatujew and Arthur Biyarslanov in competitions , while suffering defeats to Farid Ismailov, Rajab Butayev and Pərviz Bağırov .

In the elite class he was Lithuanian champion in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015. After narrowly eliminated from the European Championships in Minsk and the World Championships in Almaty in 2013 , he won the silver medal at the EU Championships in Sofia in 2014 . After victories against Michael Gunitzberger, Sam McNess and Vasile Belous , he was only eliminated in the final fight against Simeon Chamow with 1: 2. In 2015 he won the European Championships in Samokow . He beat Balázs Bácskai , this time also Simeon Chamow, as well as Youba Sissokho and Pawel Kastramin . This made him the first Lithuanian amateur European boxing champion in 22 years. In August 2015 he was named boxer of the month by AIBA as the first Lithuanian.

In October 2015 he took part in the World Championships in Doha . He defeated the Irish Olympic athlete Adam Nolan in the preliminary round and the second in the world rankings Gabriel Maestre from Venezuela in the round of 16 , before narrowly knocking out the Chinese Liu Wei (1: 2) in the quarter- finals.

He has also won international tournaments in Germany, Finland, Slovakia and Lithuania, including a win against Jeffrey Horne in the 2012 final of the Algirdas Socikas Tournaments . In March 2013 he won the Grand Prix in the Czech Republic against the world champion Danijar Jeleussinow .

In April 2016 he won the European Olympic qualification tournament in Samsun with victories against Alban Beqiri from Albania, Paulo Bernardes from Portugal, Vasile Belous from Moldova and Vincenzo Mangiacapre from Italy. He was thus a participant in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where he was eliminated in the round of 16 against the Uzbek Shaxram Gʻiyosov .

APB

From 2014 to 2016, Stanionis took part in the semi-professional AIBA Pro Boxing (APB) series, in which professional boxers were able to compete for the first time to qualify for participation in the Olympic Games. He achieved a record of four wins ( Marcos Nader , Gyula Káté , Tamerlan Abdullajew, Amin Ghasemipour ) and three defeats ( Onur Şipal , Andrei Samkowoi , Rayton Okwiri ).

Professional career

On April 9, 2017, Eimantas Stanionis made his professional debut in Los Angeles , knocking out Rasheed Lawal. He is under contract with Ringstar Sports from promoter Richard Schaefer and is trained by Freddie Roach .
