Andrey Zamkovoy ( Russian Андрей Викторович Замковой ; * 4. July 1987 in Svobodny , Amur region ) is a Russian boxer in the welterweight division .

Career

Andrei Samkowoi won the gold medal in the light welterweight division at the Junior European Championships in Estonia in 2005 , where he defeated, among others, Alexis Vastine . He then made an impressive appearance again at the 2009 World Championships in Milan , when he won the silver medal in the welterweight division. He had won against Vincent Otieno, Jaoid Chiguer , Balázs Bácskai , William McLaughlin and Serik Säpijew and only lost in the final against Jack Culcay-Keth .

At the European Championships in Moscow in 2010 he lost in the first fight against Taras Schelestyuk , but reached the quarter-finals at the 2011 World Championships in Baku after beating Moustapha Hima , Bjambyn Tüwschinbat and Stephen Danyo. In the fight for a place in the medal ranks he lost just 13: 13+ against Taras Schelestjuk.

With this result, however, he had qualified for the 2012 Olympic Games in London . There he reached the semifinals with victories against Maimatti Tusunqiong, Adam Nolan and Errol Spence , where he was eliminated against Serik Säpijew and won bronze in the welterweight division. In 2013 he won gold at the Summer Universiade and defeated Onur Şipal , and he also played two fights for the Russian Boxing Team in the World Series of Boxing .

Through his successful participation in the newly founded professional area "APB" of the amateur association AIBA, where he beat Eimantas Stanionis and Gyula Káté , among others , he qualified for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . There he was eliminated in the first fight against Rayton Okwiri .

At the 2019 World Championships in Yekaterinburg , he secured the gold medal by beating Pat McCormack in the final . Previously he had defeated Nabil Messoudi, Wyatt Sanford, Roniel Iglesias and Abylaichan Schüssipow .

In addition, Samkowoi is Russian champion in 2010, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2018 and has won tournaments in Russia, Germany, Finland, Lithuania, Serbia and Uzbekistan.
