Adam Nolan
Adam Patrick Nolan (* 11. March 1987 in Wexford ) is a former Irish boxer in the welterweight division . Among other things, he was an Olympic participant in 2012 and a European and World Cup participant in 2013 and 2015.
Boxing career
Adam Nolan won a bronze medal at the Irish Championships in 2010 after a semi-final defeat by William McLaughlin, but won the Irish championship the following year with a final victory over Karl Brabazon. In 2012 he defeated Craig McCarthy, Michael O'Reilly , this time also William McLaughlin and in the final John Joyce , which he won his second Irish championship in a row. He also took part in the Chemistry Cup in Germany , where he beat Vasile Belous and Abdülkadir Köroğlu before retiring with a bronze medal against Araik Marutjan .
In April 2012 Nolan won the European Olympic qualification in Trabzon with victories against Tomasz Kot from Poland, Tamerlan Abdullajew from Azerbaijan, Ionuț Gheorghe from Romania and Patrick Wojcicki from Germany. He then started at the 2012 Olympic Games in London and defeated Carlos Sánchez in the preliminary round, but lost to Andrei Samkowoi in the round of 16 .
In 2013 he was again Irish champion with a final win against William McLaughlin, but failed at the 2013 European Championships in the round of 16 to Bogdan Schelestyuk . At the French three-nation tournament he won gold by beating Souleymane Cissokho and Tomasz Kot, and he also started at the 2013 World Championships , where he lost 2-1 to Souleymane Cissokho in the preliminary round this time.
After losing to Steven Donnelly in the final of the national championships in 2014 , he was still Irish champion in 2015 and 2016, beating John Joyce and Michael Stokes in the finals. In March 2015 he won the Finnish Gee-Bee tournament against Youba Sissokho , Oliver Flodin and Chris Mbwakongo. In June 2015 he took part in the European Games and reached the quarterfinals with victorious fights against Alban Beqiri and Dario Morello, where he was knocked out 2-1 by Josh Kelly .
At the European Championships in 2015 he reached the quarter-finals against Önder Şipal and Rajab Butajew and lost there against Pawel Kastramin . In addition, he lost 2-1 to Eimantas Stanionis in the preliminary round of the 2015 World Championships . In addition, he played two fights for Team Italia Thunder in the World Series of Boxing in 2015 .
Hurling
In addition to boxing, Nolan also played hurling and won the Wexford County Championship in 2016 with the Oulart-the-Ballagh team . In order to concentrate more on hurling in the future, he announced his retirement from boxing in January 2017.
