Don Lemon (born March 1, 1966 in Baton Rouge , Louisiana ) is an American television journalist. He is the host and anchor of CNN telecast CNN Tonight with Don Lemon .

education

Lemon grew up in East Baton Rouge Parish and attended Louisiana State University . After moving to Brooklyn College in Brooklyn , New York, he earned a bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism. During his studies he worked as an editorial assistant at the television station WNYW in New York City.

Work as a journalist

Lemon began his professional career as a weekend anchor for local broadcasters WBRC in Birmingham , Alabama and WCAU in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania, and as an anchor and reporter for KTVI in St. Louis . He later worked as a reporter for NBC in New York City for the news programs Today and NBC Nightly News, among others, and appeared as a weekend anchor for Today and the news channel MSNBC . In 2003 he moved to WMAQ-TV in Chicago , where he also worked as a reporter and news anchor.

Lemon has been with CNN since 2006 , initially as a weekend anchor and correspondent in Atlanta. Since 2014 he has hosted the evening program CNN tonight from the New York studio.

Personal

Lemon published a book about his career as a journalist in 2011. In it he publicly came out as gay and discussed being sexually abused as a boy . He had already spoken about this abuse in September 2010 during a live interview with supporters of the clergyman Eddie Long , who was suspected of abusing young people in his community. In April 2019, Lemon got engaged to partner Tim Malone, a New York real estate agent. The couple live in New York City.

Honors

Lemon received an Emmy Award for a report on the Chicago real estate market. He received the Edward R. Murrow Award from the Radio-Television News Directors Association for reporting on the Beltway Sniper case . In 2017 he received the Davidson / Valentini Award from GLAAD for promoting the rights of the LGBTQ community.
