WNYW Channel 5 is an American television station based in New York . WNYW is part of the FOX network . The station received its license on May 2, 1944 as the third television station in the east coast metropolis, at that time still under the identification WABD Channel 4.

On September 11, 2001, at 8:48:08 a.m. local time , WNYW became the first TV station to broadcast live coverage of the terrorist attacks just 1 minute and 28 seconds after the first plane hit . A commercial was interrupted for this breaking news story. The first words of the reporter Dick Oliver were (original sound): Jim, just a few moments ago, something believed to be a plane crashed into the South Tower of the World Trade Center .
