Rajab Yusupovich Butajew ( Russian Раджаб Юсупович Бутаев ; born December 15, 1993 in Chassavyurt ) is a Russian boxer .

Career

amateur

In the junior division (U19), Butajew won the silver medal in featherweight (up to 56 kg) at the European Championships in Dublin in 2011 .

The following year he took part in the Russian men's championships for the first time and was second behind Armen Sakarjan in the light welterweight division (up to 64 kg).

Butayev won the gold medal at the 2013 Universiade in Kazan . In 2014 he was then the first Russian champion with a final victory over Andrei Samkowoi .

World Series of Boxing

In the 2013-14 season Butayev played his first two fights for the Russian Boxing Team in the World Series of Boxing , of which he won one.

In the 2015 season, Butayev was used in six of seven regular season fights and won all, including a. against the Cuban Olympic champion Roniel Iglesias . He finished second in the ranking of his weight class this season behind Mohammed Rabii and qualified for the 2016 Olympic Games . Curiel was also used in the quarterfinals of the playoffs against Italia Thunder and was also able to win his fight here. The Russian Boxing Team was then eliminated in the semifinals against the Astana Arlans, but Butajew was not used again.
