Enrico Kölling (born February 27, 1990 in Berlin ) is a German boxer . He was a participant in the 2012 Olympic Games and won the WBA intercontinental light heavyweight title.
Career
amateur
Enrico Kölling grew up in Berlin and started boxing at SC Berlin when he was eight . He's still a member of this club today, but boxing for Hertha BSC in the Bundesliga . His trainers are Adolf Angrich and Ralf Dickert. The strong athlete, who fights in the light heavyweight category up to 81 kg body weight, belongs to a sports promotion group of the Bundeswehr .
In 2005 Enrico Kölling became German junior champion in the cadet age group. He defeated it in the light welterweight (up to 63 kg body weight) in the final fight Yassine Moussaoui from Palbach on points (29:16). In 2006 he won the title of an international German junior champion (U 17) in welterweight (up to 69 kg body weight). In the final he defeated Christian Siebmann from BC Frankfurt (Oder) on points. In the same year he drove with the German national team to the European Cadet Championships in Tirana , Albania, where he was eliminated in the preliminary round against his future teammate in the professionals, Marcos Nader . In 2007 he won the next German junior championship title in the weight class | middleweight (up to 75 kg) with a point victory in the final over Dominic Bösel and in 2009 he was again German junior champion in this weight class with a point victory in the final over Arthur Manchos from VfB Oldenburg ( Youth champions) in the age group U 19.
In 2009 he took part for the first time in the light heavyweight division in the German championship of elite boxers (senior division) and was also German champion with a point win in the final over Benjamin Schmidt, MBC Ludwigsburg (4: 0).
Enrico Kölling had his first successes in the international boxing ring in 2007. This year he finished in the middleweight division in Sombor after victories over Viko Stojanow from Croatia (21: 1) and Igor Gulpa, Estonia (+14: 14) and a point defeat in the semi-finals against Nikola Jovanovic from Serbia (8:17). Place and won a bronze medal. In 2008 he took part in the Junior (Youth) World Championships (U 19) in Guadalajara / Mexico and came in the middleweight division to an RSC victory in the 4th round over Kamikawe Takaki, Japan and points wins over Michail Dauhaliawats, Belarus (9 : 4), Wladimir Savenko, Ukraine (10: 1) and Luis Arias , USA (7: 1). He was in the final against the Cuban world-class boxer Rey Eduardo Recio , whom he delivered a great fight, but ultimately lost just on points (2: 4). He became vice world champion .
In May 2011 Kölling defeated his compatriot from Berlin and tough competitor Tyron Zeuge in the "Round Robin" competition series by just under points (8: 7) and was therefore nominated for the world championships . In these, Kölling beat Sandagsuren Erdenebayar, Mongolia (12: 4) in the first fight , but failed in the round of 16 to the eventual world champion Julio César La Cruz , Cuba (8: 6).
With 9th place at the 2011 World Championships, Kölling also qualified for the 2012 Olympic Games , where he defeated Christian Donfack , Cameroon (15: 6) in the preliminary round , but in the round of 16 against Abdelhafid Benchabla , Algeria (12: 9) , lost and was eliminated from the tournament.
World Series of Boxing
Since December 2010, Enrico Kölling has been competing in the “ World Series of Boxing ” created by AIBA , a kind of team world championship, for the “Istanbul Bulls” from Istanbul . He had four wins in five fights in his first season in the weight class up to 85 kg, which was specially set up for this competition.
In the second season of the World Series of Boxing , Enrico Kölling changes from the “Istanbul Bulls” to the German WSB team, the Leipzig Leopards , for which he was able to win one of three fights.
Professional career
After the Olympic Games in 2012, Kölling switched to the professionals. In the same year he made his professional debut. In 2013 he won all eight professional fights, including for the first time outside of Germany in the O2 Arena in London . With his twelfth win in the twelfth fight, he won against Paata Aduashvili the WBO junior world title in the light heavyweight division in 2014. In the same year he boxed five more fights, all of which he won. Among them, he won the WBA intercontinental title with his 14th professional fight in June 2014 against the French boxer Patrick Bois . He defended the title against Giuseppe Brischetto in August 2014, before losing it again in February 2015 after losing to Mirco Ricci. With this first defeat, a streak of 16 victories in 16 fights ended. In the same year he played another four professional fights, all of which he won. In April 2016 he won the vacant WBA intercontinental title again against the Ukrainian Oleksandr Cherviak and defended it against the South African boxer Ryno Liebenberg in October of the same year. With his renewed victory in the rematch against Liebenberg, abroad for the first time since 2013, in Kempton Park in February 2017, he won the 23rd professional fight of 24th professional fights. This was followed in November 2017 in Fresno , USA, the fight for the IBF world championship in the light heavyweight division against Artur Beterbiev , who won the fight in round 12. The year 2018 began for him in January with a fight against the German boxer Robert Müller, which he won through TKO . Another two months later he beat the Georgen Giorgi Beroshvili KO . In June 2018 he won against the Latvians Andrejs Pokumeiko. Due to his streak of success, he fought for the EBU European light heavyweight title in October 2018 against defending champion Dominic Bösel , against whom he lost on points .
