The CGM Arena is a multifunctional arena in the Oberwerth sports park in Koblenz . The former Oberwerth sports hall is the second largest hall in Rhineland-Palatinate after the Trier Arena .

history

The plans to build a sports hall on the Oberwerth go back to 1969. The construction of the Oberwerth sports hall, its first name, began on March 1, 1990. On January 18, 1992 , Mayor Willi Hört opened what was then the largest sports and event hall in Rhineland-Palatinate for the 2000th anniversary of the city of Koblenz with a big sports gala. The hall serves, among other things, as a training and home venue for various types of sport. It was the venue for world championships in dancing , rock 'n' roll, motorcycle trials and ring tennis , European championships and the like. a. in fencing , karate. The arena is also used for concerts by various artists, shows, galas and trade fairs. The TV show Wetten, dass ..? was transferred from the Oberwerth sports hall on March 20, 1993.

On January 1, 2013, the Oberwerth sports hall was renamed “Conlog Arena”. The Elsen subsidiary Con-Log Logistik und Consulting GmbH initially acquired the naming rights from the city of Koblenz for five years .

From January 17th to 22nd, 2017, the men's tennis tournament Koblenz Open of the ATP Challenger Tour took place in the hall for the first time . The second edition was held from January 14 to 21, 2018.

On January 1st, 2018 the hall was renamed the CGM Arena . The new name sponsor is the Koblenz-based software company CompuGroup Medical SE . The contract has a term of seven years including an option to extend the contract.

use

Depending on the type of event, the 3,400 m² CGM Arena can accommodate up to 5,000 people. In addition, there are rooms in the hall for conferences, a side hall with a sprint track and jump pit, and a weight room. The roof lets daylight into the hall through six transverse strips of light.
