The Arena Trier is a multifunctional hall in the Rhineland-Palatinate city ​​of Trier . The main hall offers around 4,500 seats and has a maximum capacity of around 8,000 spectators.

history

The Trier arena was opened in 2003 and was initially the home ground of the basketball Bundesliga team TBB Trier . At the end of the 2014/15 season, the TBB era ended with the club's bankruptcy . The successors of the TBB since the 2015/16 season are the Gladiators Trier , who play in the ProA (2nd basketball league). Since the opening of the Trier Arena, the home games of the women's handball team DJK / MJC Trier have been held here ( 1st Bundesliga up to the 2014/15 season , since then 2nd Bundesliga ).

In March 2010 the German table tennis championship took place in the hall .

From December 2 to 8, 2017, a total of 15 group A preliminary round matches of the 2017 Women's Handball World Championship took place in the arena .

The European Darts Matchplay , part of the PDC European Tour, will take place in the arena from June 26th to 28th, 2020 .

In addition, concerts and TV recordings take place regularly in the hall, including Do you understand fun? , held in the arena. Every year 75 to 80 major events take place with a total of between 180,000 and 210,000 visitors. Xavier Naidoo holds the record with 8,200 spectators. Otherwise the hall is used by schools and other sports clubs. The contract stipulates a usage quota of more than 50 percent for school and mass sports. The adjoining hall contains a climbing wall and is used for catering and technical purposes at major events.

The interior of the main hall can be subdivided several times if required and flexibly adapted to the respective use by means of retractable and extendable grandstands. The office of the operating company MVG Trier, the fan shop and the office of the Gladiators Trier, the bistro "Front of House" and the production facilities of the community broadcaster OK54 are located in the adjoining rooms of the hall .
