The European Darts Matchplay is a ranking tournament in darts, which is organized by the PDC . It is an event of the European Darts Tour , which is carried out as part of the PDC Pro Tour . The venue in 2019 was the Maimarkthalle in Mannheim , after the tournament was held in the Olympiahalle in Innsbruck in the 2015 premiere season before it moved to the Inselparkhalle in Hamburg for the three following years . In 2020 it should take place in the arena in Trier .
Reigning defending champion is Joe Cullen , who won the tournament for the first time in 2019 with an 8: 5- legs final victory over Michael van Gerwen .
format
The tournament will be played in a knockout system . Game mode in the first rounds is a best of 11 legs . In the semifinals, the best of 13 legs is played, in the final, the best of 15 legs . Each leg is played in double-out mode.
Prize money
The tournament is currently giving away a total of £ 140,000 in prize money, an increase of £ 5,000 over the previous year. The prize money is distributed among the participants as follows:
