James Martin Wade (born April 6, 1983 in Aldershot , Hampshire ) is an English darts player . His nickname is The Machine and his run-in music is Boys Are Back In Town by Thin Lizzy.
Career
James Wade started his professional career in 2001 in the World Darts Federation . In 2004 he moved to the Professional Darts Corporation . 2007 Wade was able to win the World Matchplay after victories over Dennis Priestley , Mervyn King , Adrian Lewis and Terry Jenkins . Three months later, he won the World Grand Prix . In January 2009 he was in the semifinals of the World Professional Darts Championship , where he lost 4-6 to Raymond van Barneveld . In May 2009 he won the Darts Premier League by beating Mervyn King 13: 8 in the final.
In 2010 Wade reached the final of the Premier League Darts again, but could not defend his title because he lost 8:10 in the final to Phil Taylor , who was the only player in this match to have two 9-darters in a game in front of TV -Cameras threw. In October 2010 Wade won the Grand Prix in Dublin against Adrian Lewis in the final with 6 to 3 sets.
At the PDC World Darts Championship 2011 Wade lost in the second round against the Austrian Mensur Suljović 2: 4. On June 5, 2011, Wade won the UK Open by beating Wes Newton 11-8 in the final .
On October 8, 2014, Wade scored his second nine-darter in front of running TV cameras in the game against Robert Thornton at the 2014 World Grand Prix . Because Thornton also succeeded in nine-darting, this was the first TV game in which both players threw a nine-darter at double in / double out. He then reached the final, which he lost to Michael van Gerwen .
Wade won the Masters 2014 despite a 2: 9 deficit with 11:10 against Mervyn King and ended the game with a 135 finish. This was his first major win after the World Grand Prix in 2010.

At the PDC World Darts Championship 2016 he reached the quarter-finals with three comfortable victories, but lost it against Gary Anderson with 1: 5. Wade won the European Darts Matchplay 2016 in the final against Dave Chisnall 6: 5. At the European Darts Championship 2016 he only had to give in to van Gerwen in the semi-finals. At the Grand Slam of Darts 2016 he defeated Anderson with 16:14 and reached the final, which he clearly lost again against van Gerwen with 8:16.
At the PDC World Darts Championship 2017 he made it to the quarterfinals, where he lost 5: 3 to Peter Wright. In the Premiere League , he again missed the play-offs.
At the European Darts Championship 2018 Wade won the final against Simon Whitlock 11: 8 and became European champion. A week later he won the World Series of Darts Finals and thus secured his second major success in 2018 and thus the ninth major title of his career.
Wade can confirm his good form at the Players Championship Events 2019, where he won the finals five times. Never before has he won five ranking titles in one year. In addition, Wade made it to the final of the PDC Darts Masters 2019 , which he lost to van Gerwen with 5:11. In addition, he reached the play-offs of the Premiere League Darts 2019 .
