The Masters is an invitation tournament in darts . Participants are the top 16 of the Order of Merit . It has been organized every year since 2013 by the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC). The venue has been the ArenaMK in Milton Keynes since 2015 .

The premiere tournament and the second edition took place in the Royal Highland Center in Edinburgh .

format

The 16 best placed players in the current Order of Merit take part in the Masters. A seeding list applies, according to which in the round of 16, the first round, the first of the Order of Merit plays against the 16th, the second against the 15th, the third against the 14th, etc.

The tournament is played in the knockout system in the best of legs game mode . Each leg is played in 501 double-out mode. This means that a player can only win a leg if he brings his 501 points to exactly 0 points with a double field.

In 2013, the round of 16 were played in the best of 11 legs , the quarter-finals in the best of 15 legs and the semi-finals and the final in the best of 19 legs mode. Since 2014, the eighth and quarter finals have been played in the best of 19 legs , as well as the semi-finals and the final in the best of 21 legs mode.

The tournament has been taking place since 2015 on a weekend at the end of January / beginning of February as the second major tournament of the darts season, with the round of 16 games being played on the first day and the quarter, half and final games on the second day of the tournament.

Prize money

The prize money earned in the tournament is not taken into account when calculating the Order of Merit , as it is an invitation tournament of the PDC.
