The Masters was an invitation tournament in darts and was organized for the fourth time by the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) from January 30th to 31st, 2016 . The venue was the ArenaMK in Milton Keynes for the second time .
The defending champion was Michael van Gerwen , who won the tournament again for the second time.
format
The tournament participants were the current top 16 players in the Order of Merit . The tournament was played in a knockout system . Game mode in the eighth and quarter finals was a best of 19 legs . A best of 21 legs mode was played in the semifinals and finals . Each leg was played in double-out mode.
Prize money
A total of £ 200,000 in prize money was distributed. The prize money was distributed among the participants as follows:

The 16 first-placed players in the Order of Merit as of January 3, 2016, after the 2016 World Cup , qualified for the Masters 2016 .

Sport1 broadcast the event in German-speaking countries . The station can also be received in Austria via cable and satellite. Sport1 also offered a live stream .
Internationally, all games were also transmitted directly to pdc.tv by the PDC.
