The European Darts Championship , often darts called European Championship, is one since 2008 been registered competition in which the best-placed dart players of previous European Tour season compete.
Record winners of the tournament are the Englishman Phil Taylor and the Dutchman Michael van Gerwen with four triumphs.
format
The European Darts Championship was always held at the end of July or beginning of August until 2015. In 2015 and 2016, the event will take place on a weekend in autumn. The venue changed almost every year, most recently the tournament took place in Göttingen .
The tournament is played in legs. In the first round, which extends over the entire first day of the tournament, the participants of the round of 16 are played in the best of 11 legs mode. The round of 16 games will be played on the second day of the tournament in Best of 19 legs. The quarterfinals played on the third and last day of the tournament are also played in this mode. In the evening, the remaining four players determine the winner of the European Darts Championship in the semi-finals and finals in the Best of 21 mode.

In England, the European Darts Championship has been broadcast on the television stations Bravo and ITV 4 in recent years . In 2012 ESPN UK was a partner of the PDC. In Germany it is broadcast by Sport1 and / or Sport1 + on TV or via livestream on the Sport1 homepage. 2018 was the first European Championship to be broadcast by the DAZN streaming service.
