Wesley "Wes" Newton (born August 27, 1977 in Blackpool , Lancashire ) is an English darts player . His nickname is "The Warrior" and his signature tune is Crazy crazy nights by Kiss .

Career

He made his PDC debut at the UK Open in 2004 and made his world championship debut in 2005. However, he lost to Gerry Convery in the first round . At the Las Vegas Open 2005 he reached the semi-finals, where he lost to Phil Taylor . He broke his collarbone shortly after the event and returned to the 2005 World Grand Prix , but lost to Colin Lloyd in the second round .

When he took part in the PDC World Championship for the second time in 2006, he reached the second round, but lost to Kevin Painter here . Also in 2007 he lost in the second round to Colin Osborne . Things went a little better in 2008 , when he clearly lost 3-0 against qualifier Jamie Caven in the first round .

At the PDC World Darts Championship 2009 the number 31 was set and defeated the Dane Per Laursen 3: 1 in the first round , before he lost 1: 4 a round later against Raymond van Barneveld . After the tournament, he lost his place in the top 32 of the Order of Merit when he finished 35th. On January 25, 2009, he won the Las Vegas Open .

Also in 2010 he reached the second round of the World Cup after initially defeating Jarkko Komula 3-0, but then lost 4-2 to Adrian Lewis .

On November 7th and 8th, 2010 Newton became the fifth player to win two Player Championship Tournaments on the same weekend. He had previously qualified for the Grand Slam of Darts on November 6th . Because of the double success, he rose to the top 16 of the Order of Merit for the first time in his career.

At the PDC World Darts Championship 2011 he made it to the quarterfinals, having previously beaten Darin Young , Brendan Dolan and Mensur Suljović . Here, however, he lost to Terry Jenkins 4: 5.

At the UK Open 2011 Newton reached the final, but where he lost to James Wade . At the European Darts Championship 2012 he also reached the final, but lost to Simon Whitlock with 5:11.

At the PDC World Darts Championship 2014 he was eliminated 4: 5 against Peter Wright, although he played a 170 finish. In 2015 he lost to Cristo Reyes in the first round with 2: 3 in the sudden death leg. It was curious that referee Paul Hinks initially forgot to have both players thrown at the bullseye again, as usual, before the start of the decision leg. After both players threw six darts, Hinks corrected his mistake and had both players thrown at the bullseye. Reyes prevailed and finally won the leg and the match.

In the following years Newton could no longer qualify for many major tournaments. At the PDC World Darts Championship 2016 he returned the favor to Reyes and defeated him 3: 1, but lost in round 2 with 0: 4 against James Wade . At the UK Open 2016 he was eliminated in round 2. In the course of 2016 Newton slipped out of the Top 32 of the Order of Merit and did not qualify for the PDC World Darts Championship 2017 .
