The William Hill World Darts Championship 2015 was held between December 18, 2014 and January 4, 2015 in its 22nd edition by the Professional Darts Corporation . The venue for the eighth time was the Alexandra Palace in London . The defending champion was Michael van Gerwen , who was eliminated in the semi-finals. World champion was Gary Anderson for the first time , who played his second World Cup final.

Sport 1 and Sport 1+ broadcast the event on German television . The live broadcasts reached more viewers than any of the previously broadcast darts events in Germany: an average of 470,000 viewers followed the live reports, with the current best of around 330,000 viewers from 2009. The million mark was exceeded four times during the broadcasts of the tournament, with the 2015 final between Gary Anderson and Phil Taylor attracting an average of 1.36 million and a peak of 1.86 million viewers, which is the highest value for a single darts game to date depicted. The previous record was held by the 2013 final between Taylor and Michael van Gerwen , which reached an average of 820,000 viewers (and around 1.1 million in the tops).

A total of £ 1,250,000 in prize money was distributed. The prize money for the winner was £ 250,000.

Tournament schedule

Of the 72 participants, 16 competed in a knockout round (preliminary round). The eight winners then completed the main field of 64 players, which also competed against each other in the knockout system according to the seeding list.

The preliminary round was played in the best-of-seven leg format. The winners of the preliminary round played their game in the first round of the main round on the same day. The main and final round were played in the set system, each set in best-of-five mode.
