The Ladbrokes .com World Darts Championship 2005 took place from December 26, 2004 to January 3, 2005 in Purfleet . This world championship was organized by the PDC for the 12th time and took place in the Circus Tavern again, as in previous years .

Number 2 seeded Englishman , defending champion and record world champion Phil Taylor successfully defended his title when he beat his compatriot Mark Dudbridge 7-4 in the final .

Tournament course

As in the previous year, the field consisted of 40 players. In the first round, eight international qualifiers competed against eight players who qualified through a Professional Dart Players Association (PDPA) tournament. For the second round, the players in the world ranking positions 25 to 32 were set. From the third round, the best 16 players in the world rankings intervened in the tournament.

John Lowe , who played his 28th and final World Championship, had to admit defeat to Canadian John Verwey in round two after a tie-break .

The 2005 World Cup totaled £ 300,000 in prize money, £ 44,000 more than the 2004 World Cup .
