British Darts Organization

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The British Darts Organization ( BDO ) is a darts association founded in 1973 .

The British Darts Organization tournaments are often broadcast on the BBC in Great Britain and SBS6 in the Netherlands . The BDO is a member of the World Darts Federation (WDF, founded in 1976) together with around 60 other associations . However, after violating the rules, the BDO was revoked its full membership. She was downgraded to an "Associate Member", which means she is no longer the official darts association of England and her world championship is no longer recognized by the world association.

Apart from a group of professional athletes, the BDO represents all British darts players. The BDO has been organizing world championships since 1978 , and for women since 2001.

In 1992, under the influence of Sky Television, the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) split off from the BDO, whose tournaments in the Netherlands are primarily broadcast by the TV station RTL 5 .

Due to the change of many well-known darts players from the BDO to the PDC, the PDC has meanwhile achieved a greater status than the BDO in international darts.

BDO world rankings

The BDO Invitation Table is the official ranking list of the participating players of the darts organization British Darts Corporation. In contrast to the PDC Order of Merit , the BDO Invitation Table uses a points system.

The tournaments are divided into different categories. The major tournaments are The Lakeside World Professional Championship , the World Trophy and the Winmau World Masters . Only the twelve best placements are counted.
