Leighton Bennett (born December 31, 2005 in Lincoln (Lincolnshire) ) is an English darts player who competes under the nickname "Boom Boom" in the youth field tournaments of the darts association BDO . In 2019, at the age of 13, he won the BDO World Youth Darts Championship . In 2020, at the age of 14, he competed for the first time in the BDO Men 's World Championship . This makes him the youngest player in the history of darts to ever take part in a professional men's world championship.
Career
Bennett's first major darts tournament was the Junior World Masters , where he lost his opening game with 1: 4 legs. In his debut year he also took part in the BDO World Youth Darts Championship for the first time, but did not get beyond the preliminary round. For the first time, Bennett gained national fame with his triumph at the Cambridgeshire Open in August 2018. In this tournament, the then 12-year-old defeated, among others, the multiple PDC World Championship participant Ricky Evans in the semifinals, before he defeated the Development Tour actor Rhys Hayden in the final could also defeat. As a result, Bennett received prize money of £ 1,000 and was ennobled , among others, by the multiple World Cup semi-finalist Wayne Mardle . At the World Masters , Bennett reached the semifinals in his sophomore year. The Englishman celebrated the greatest success of his career in January 2019 when he defeated the Scottish Nathan Girvan with 3-0 sets in the final of the BDO World Youth Darts Championship 2019 and thus became youth champion of the BDO.
