BDO World Darts Championship 2020

The BDO World Professional Darts Championship 2020 is the 43rd edition of the British Darts Organization conducted Darts - World Cup from 4 to 12 January 2020 in Indigo, a club within the, The O2 in London ( England will be played). Separate competitions are held for men and women.

Defending champion Glen Durrant has been participating in the tournaments of the Professional Darts Corporation since 2019 . Durrant's successor as men's world champion was Welsh Wayne Warren , who defeated Jim Williams 7: 4 sets in the final. The women's defending champion Mikuru Suzuki successfully defended her title by beating Lisa Ashton 3-0.

Format & qualification

40 players take part in the 43rd edition of the BDO World Darts Championship . The 27 best players qualified via the BDO ranking . The field of participants was supplemented by the winner of the Winmau World Master, eight regional qualifiers and the four winners of a qualification tournament. The 16 best players in the world rankings are set for the first round. The players in the world rankings 17 to 24 were drawn to these players in round 1 in advance of the tournament. The remaining players must go through a preliminary round before moving into the first round.

The tournament will be played in the knockout system and in set mode. To win a set, a player needs three legs, with a gap of two legs to win in any decisive set. In the preliminary round and the first round, three sets are required to win a game. The round of 16 will be played in Best of 7 mode and the quarter-finals in Best of 9 mode. To win the semifinals, six sets ( Best of 11 mode ) are then required, while the Best of 13 mode is used in the final .

Overall, the prize money has been cut significantly this year. While in the previous year a total of £ 300,000 was offered, in 2020 it is only £ 127,000. The prize money was distributed among the participants as follows:

The draw for the preliminary round and the first round took place on November 2, 2019. On the first three days of the tournament, the preliminary round games were played in the best of 5 sets mode parallel to the first round .

Format & qualification

As in previous years, 16 players took part in the women's tournament. The 14 best placed players in the BDO Invitation Table were eligible to participate . There were also two other players who previously went through a qualifying tournament. All players started in the first round, in which the eight best-placed darters in the BDO Invitation Table were seeded and the remaining players were drawn.

As in the men's tournament, the women's tournament was played in set mode. Three legs were also required to win a set. In one set of decisions, two legs also had to win the lead. In all rounds excluding the endgame, the Best of 3 mode was played. The final was contested in the Best of 5 mode .

Winner of the qualifying tournament

1After her successful participation in the PDC World Darts Championship 2020 , Fallon Sherrock withdrew her participation in the BDO World Championship. She was replaced by the sixteenth place in the world rankings Vicky Pruim.
2Trina Gulliver withdrew her participation due to health problems. She was replaced by Tori Kewish.

Prize money

The prize money for women was also reduced. It was £ 29,000 in 2019, down from £ 26,500 this year. The prize money was distributed among the participants as follows:

The first game of the afternoon session will be the final of the BDO Junior World Championship on January 11, 2020. It will be held in the best of 5 mode. The winner received £ 5,000 and the losing finalist £ 2,500.
