Career

2005 to 2014

Durrant has played in the BDO since 2005. Successes were however a long time coming. It was only in 2014 that he achieved his first notable tournament successes, such as B. the Northern Ireland Open . In 2014 he also qualified for the world championship for the first time . Durrant won his opening match 3-0 against Mike Day before he was defeated by Alan Norris 4-1 in the round of 16 . In the same year he reached the semifinals of the prestigious World Masters .

2015

Durrant has dominated the BDO since 2015. Right at the beginning of the year he reached the semi-finals at the BDO World Championship . There he was narrowly defeated by Martin Adams 5: 6. Durrant then drove eight tournament victories in the year, including two major wins. At the World Masters he beat Larry Butler 7-3 in the final . He was also successful at the Zuiderduin Masters , with a spectacular 5-2 win over Martin Adams. Durrant played an average of over 100 points.

2016

Durrant went into the BDO World Championship 2016 as number 1 and thus a big favorite . It was also speculated whether he would switch to the competing association, the PDC , if he won. However, Durrant lost in the quarterfinals against eventual winner Scott Waites 4-5 and stayed with the BDO.

Durrant continued his dominance and won ten more tournaments in 2016. He was able to defend his two major titles from the previous year. He was also one of the eight BDO players invited by the PDC as part of the Grand Slam of Darts 2016 . He caught a strong group with two-time PDC world champions Gary Anderson , Alan Norris and Nathan Derry . After strong performances, Durrant made it to the round of 16, where he met Raymond van Barneveld , to whom he was defeated 7:10. After the tournament, Durrant explained how enthusiastic he was about the PDC. There was again speculation that he could change associations after the World Cup.

2017

Durrant started again as number 1 and big favorite in the BDO World Championship 2017 , which he won 7: 3 in the final against the Dutchman Danny Noppert .

2019

As a three-time BDO world champion, he went to the PDC in 2019. On the last day of the Q School in Wigan, he got a Tour Card for two years and thereby automatically became a player of the leading association. He was able to record his first victory at the fourth Player Championships tournament on February 17, 2019 in Wigan, England. A collaboration with Target was announced in June.

At the second round of the World Matchplay in Blackpool there was a clash with the reigning PDC world champion Michael van Gerwen. Durrant won the game with 13:11 and an average of 99.33 points. He was only stopped in the semi-finals by Michael Smith . Durrant reached the semi-finals at the 2019 World Grand Prix , where he beat World Champion Rob Cross 3-2. About a month later he played at the Grand Slam of Darts 2019 . After a close group stage he defeated Gabriel Clemens 10:09 and Michael Smith 16:12, before failing in the semifinals to Peter Wright 16:11. At the end of the year Durrant took part in the PDC World Championship 2020 . After victories over Damon Heta , Daryl Gurney and Chris Dobey , he was only eliminated in the quarterfinals against Gerwyn Price . He ended his debut year as number 22 in the world.

2020

At the beginning of the year Durrant was named by the PDC as one of the nine permanent participants for the Premier League Darts 2020 due to his good debut season . At the World Matchplay 2020 he beat Jeffrey de Zwaan with an average of 106.9 points, the reigning world champion Peter Wright (11: 8) and Vincent van der Voort with 18:16. It was only in the semifinals that he was eliminated from debutant and eventual winner Dimitri Van den Bergh (15:17).
