Chris Dobey (born May 31, 1990 in Bedlington, Northumberland ) is an English darts player who is currently under contract with the PDC . Similar to Michael Smith , Gary Anderson is considered his mentor.

Career

Dobey started his career at the BDO . However, he did not succeed in gaining a foothold there. After he missed the qualification for the BDO World Championship 2015, Dobey switched to the PDC .

The Scot Gary Anderson started supporting him from there. Dobey was considered a talent and was therefore invited to the World Series of Darts Finals 2015 , his first tournament in front of TV cameras. In the first round he was defeated by Terry Jenkins 6: 5. In 2016 he performed well on the Pro Tour , which earned him qualification for the European Darts Championship , the Players Championship Finals and the Grand Slam of Darts . The Grand Slam was the best tournament of his career so far. Dobey came into a group with Benito van de Pas , Adrian Lewis and the BDO representative Scott Mitchell . Surprisingly, he reached 2nd place and moved into the second round, where he managed another victory over Jamie Hughes , before he was clearly defeated by James Wade in the quarterfinals with 5:16.

At the PDC World Championship 2017 Dobey made his debut at a world championship. He met Justin Pipe in round 1 , whom he beat 3-1 sets, but lost to Dave Chisnall 2-4 sets in the second round .
