The PDC World Darts Championship , also known under the sponsor name William Hill World Darts Championship , is one of the world championships in darts which is organized by the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC). It is one of the two World Professional Darts Championships that take place annually.

The PDC World Darts Championship always takes place from December to January at Alexandra Palace in London . The winner receives the Sid Waddell Trophy , which is named after the darts commentator of the same name who died in 2012.

For the first time in 1994 the tournament was held as the WDC World Darts Championship after some players had split off from the British Darts Organization two years earlier .

Englishman Phil Taylor is the record world champion with a total of 14 world titles and 25 participations . The current PDC world champion is the Scot Peter Wright , who won his first title in 2020.
