Paul Lim Leong Hwa , better known as Paul Lim (born January 25, 1954 in Singapore ), is a darts player from Singapore. He became known for his 9-darter at the 1990 World Cup , which was also the first 9-darter at a World Cup.
Career
Paul Lim began his career in the BDO in 1981 and made his debut at the World Cup in 1982 . There he failed in round 1. In 1990 he reached the quarter-finals of a World Cup for the only time in his career.
In 1994 he switched to the PDC (then still known as the World Darts Council ), which had only been founded two years earlier. However, he never achieved any notable success there.
He was also part of the Singapore team at the World Cup of Darts . Although he ended his professional career in 2014, he was invited to the 2015 World Cup of Darts . He was eliminated along with Harith Lim in Round 1 against Scotland . In the first round of the World Cup of Darts 2017 he met again with Harith Lim on Scotland. The two defeated Gary Anderson and Peter Wright and caused a big surprise. On December 18, 2017, Lim caused another surprise at the age of 63 when he defeated Mark Webster with 3: 2 sets in the 1st round at the PDC World Darts Championship 2018 , of which he was the oldest participant and in the 2nd round 1st round of the tournament. For the first time since 2015 a participant in the preliminary round was able to qualify for the 2nd round of the World Cup.

Paul Lim is considered the best soft darts player in the world. He is a 6-time Grand Master singles winner.
Special
At the beginning of his darts career, Paul Lim had to compete for Papua New Guinea and, after moving to the United States, for the USA , since his home country Singapore was not a member of the World Darts Federation at the time. In 1990 Lim threw the first 9-darter at a world championship. It was also the second 9-darter in front of TV cameras, following that of John Lowe in 1984 . Lim received a bonus of £ 52,000 for this. He got more money than the eventual winner Phil Taylor (£ 24,000). To date, this has remained the only nine dart finish at a World Championship of the British Darts Organization .
