Walk of Life is a 1985 song by the British rock band Dire Straits , written by Mark Knopfler and produced in collaboration with Neil Dorfsman. Musically, it is to be added to country pop rock, which is particularly evident in the live version. It appeared on the Brothers in Arms album .
The song is about a protagonist named Johnny who wants to celebrate success in the music business. The piece also contains allusions to other songs such as I Got a Woman , Be-Bop-A-Lula , What'd I Say and The Moritat by Mackie Messer .
Initially, Walk of Life was the B-side of So Far Away and was not supposed to appear on the Brothers in Arms album , but on advice from Neil Dorfsman, the band released the song and was a hit in the charts and number one in Ireland -Hit.
The music video used was a live performance by Dire Straits, interrupted by breakdown recordings at sporting events.
