John Part (born June 29, 1966 in Toronto , Ontario ) is a Canadian darts player with the nickname "Darth Maple". He is the only non-European who could win a PDC world title (2003, 2008).

Career

John Part started playing darts after his parents gave him a dartboard for Christmas in 1987. In his subsequent career, Part was already able to triumph at the PDC World Championship and the BDO World Championship . In both tournaments, he was the first player outside of Great Britain to record these successes for themselves.

In 2003 Part defeated Phil Taylor at the PDC World Championship in the final 7: 6, in 2005 he had to admit defeat to Wayne Mardle in the semifinals of the Las Vegas Desert Classic . He won the Las Vegas Desert Classic in 2006 against Raymond van Barneveld 6: 3. On January 1st, 2008 Part won 7-2 against Kirk Shepherd in the final of the Darts World Championship and became world champion. In 2011 he threw his first nine dart finish at the World Matchplay . At the PDC World Darts Championship 2012 he moved into the quarterfinals after victories over John Henderson, Richie Burnett and Kevin Painter , but lost there in sudden death against James Wade . At the beginning of the 2012 season, Part and his Canadian partner Ken McNeil managed to win both singles at the PDC World Cup of Darts against the top seeded Englishmen (world champions Adrian Lewis and Phil Taylor), but after a lost double they both failed in a sudden death double -Leg. In the middle of 2012, Part 23 was the PDC Order of Merit . In July 2012 John Part won the start of the newly introduced North American Pro Tour with 6-1 legs in the final against Daryn Young. Due to several early defeats, especially in smaller tournaments, Part slowly slipped in the world rankings in the course of 2012 and was also unable to qualify for the European Darts Championship and the World Grand Prix.

In the following years Part slipped further and further in the PDC Order of Merit and was able to qualify for fewer and fewer major tournaments. At PDC World Championships he did not get past the 2nd round and after the 2015 World Championships he slipped out of the top 32 of the Order of Merit. As a result, after another weak year, he had to try to play his way into the field for the World Cup via qualifying tournaments, but he did not succeed. In 2016 Part did not take part in the world championship for the first time in 21 consecutive BDO or PDC world championships.

For the first time, Part 2016 also missed qualifying for the UK Open . At the World Cup of Darts , Part was successful alongside Ken MacNeil . After victories over Greece and Wales, they only had to admit defeat Northern Ireland in the quarter-finals. However, Part was again unable to qualify for the World Championships in 2017 and 2018 . He reached the quarter-finals at the UK Open 2018 .

Until the exit of the BBC, Part regularly commented on the BDO World Championship for the BBC and the PDC World Darts Championship as an expert for Sky Sports .
